A police officer and a sheriff's deputy were shot and killed in another horrific act of killing in the town of Salina, New York, on Sunday, according to Fox News, quoting officials.
These incidents come amid an increasing number of gun-related incidents in the US. The incident happened on Sunday at about 8:15pm at a house near Darien Drive; the suspect was also killed during the exchange of fire.
Salina is a town in the United States state of New York's Onondaga County. Notably, the officers were shot after arriving at the Salina residence in response to a report of a stolen car in Syracuse.
Fox News, citing WSYR-TV, reported that Onondaga County Sheriff Tobias Shelley identified the two deceased officers as a deputy and a Syracuse police officer. Their names, though, are still unknown.
According to Shelley, the neighbourhood is not under direct threat and the area is currently secure. The investigation is ongoing, and more information is awaited.
