Indian and Bangladeshi Muslims will mark the auspicious occasion of Eidul Fitr on April 11 (Thursday) after the moon sighting committee in Lucknow confirmed the non-sighting of the moon on Tuesday.
Prominent religious leader Maulana Khalid Rashid Firangi Mahli announced the decision alongside the Markazi Chand Committee Eidgah Lucknow. Imams from Delhi's Jama Masjid and Fatehpuri mosque also corroborated the decision, as reported by Indian news agency.
According to the committee's notification, "The new moon of Shawwal has not occurred on 9th April 2024.
Therefore, tomorrow is the 30th Ramadan and Eidul-Fitr will be on 11 April 2024.
This announcement contrasts with Saudi Arabia's declaration of Eidul Fitr starting on Wednesday (April 10), based on the sighting of the moon in the birthplace of Islam's holiest shrines.
The Supreme Court in Saudi Arabia confirmed Wednesday as the first day of Eidul Fitr following the moon sighting.
