In a daring daylight heist, four masked robbers stormed a goldsmith's shop, making away with a staggering 78 tola of gold worth more than one and a half million rupees in Islamabad’s Lehtrar Road area of Shehzad Town, according to the local police.
The audacious robbery unfolded around noon today when the bustling market was filled with shoppers and onlookers.
Police reported that the culprits, who were armed and masked, stormed the goldsmith's shop, overpowering the shop's staff and customers, and swiftly grabbing trays of gold ornaments.
According to Mr. Akram, the owner of the targeted jewelry store, the stolen gold was of exquisite craftsmanship and was estimated to be worth well over Rs16.77 million.
Moreover, in a bid to eliminate any evidence, the suspects also took away the shop's surveillance cameras and DVRs.
Police, in the meantime, have launched a full-scale investigation into the robbery and are reviewing CCTV footage from neighboring shops in an attempt to identify the culprits.
