Nine people have been killed and two critically injured as a three-storey residential building collapsed due to a cylinder explosion near Haram Gate Mohalla in Multan. Among the victims are men, women, and children.
As per details, among the deceased were seven members of a family, including a husband-wife duo, their two sons, and their three daughters.
Rescue efforts were immediately started following the collapse, with emergency personnel working to recover any survivors and retrieve those trapped beneath the rubble. Eight vehicles of Rescue 1122 took part in the operation, following which nine bodies were retrieved and transferred to Nishtar Hospital.
Two injured people were rushed to Nishtar Hospital in critical condition, according to the rescue staff. Moreover, an emergency was imposed in the hospital, ensuring that resources are swiftly mobilized to address the needs of the injured.
According to District Emergency Officer Dr. Kaleemullah, seven members of a family were killed, while two more people died when the debris of the building fell on an adjacent building. The deceased were identified as Danish, Ameer Ali, Waseem, Zaigham Abbas, Abdullah, Sanobar and Komal, while the injured include Waqar and Musarrat.
On the other hand, Deputy Commissioner Captain (retd) Rizwan Qadir said a full inquiry would be conducted into the causes of the incident. A technical team had also been formed for the physical inspection of neighbouring buildings, he added.
According to the locals, the building had collapsed due to a cylinder explosion.
CM seeks report
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has expressed sorrow over the lives lost in the accident. She has expressed condolences to and extended sympathy to the grieving family. The CM has also sought an immediate report from the Multan commissioner.
