Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is indifferent about the outcome of the upcoming Sunday clash between Liverpool and Manchester City, emphasising that his team is not yet in contention for the Premier League title.
With Arsenal trailing two points behind leaders Liverpool and one behind second-placed Manchester City, Arteta remained focus on their own performance, acknowledging the potential to temporarily take the top spot by defeating Brentford on Saturday at the Emirates Stadium.
A draw between Liverpool and City could keep Arsenal in the lead based on goal difference, but Arteta refuses to entertain the idea of having the title destiny in their hands at this stage.
"We can't control that. We just have to focus on our game, try to win, and then on Sunday it's a game that should be beautiful to watch for any supporter," Arteta stated during a press conference on Thursday.
He expressed his anticipation of enjoying the clash between two of the best teams in Europe with his children.
Arteta did not disclose any personal preferences for the outcome at Anfield, emphasising that the focus remains on overcoming Brentford, a team they have defeated twice this season.
He stressed the team's awareness of the challenges posed by Brentford and the need for improvement to climb to the top of the table. "Privately and publicly, I have no preference (about the result) because it has nothing to do with me," he asserted.
After last year's disappointment in surrendering an eight-point lead to City, Arteta is determined to end Arsenal's 20-year wait for the Premier League trophy.
He believed that the team's experience from the previous setback will be crucial this time, emphasising the desire for continuous improvement.
The team's impressive form, winning seven consecutive league games in 2024 and setting a historic record of scoring 30 or more goals in their first seven games, has been attributed to the players' understanding of the system and their experience playing together.
Arteta credited Arsenal's January training camp in Dubai as a turning point, providing the team with a much-needed break and the opportunity to regroup after defeats against Fulham and West Ham.
Aaron Ramsdale is set to replace the ineligible David Raya in goal, with Arteta expressing confidence in Ramsdale's readiness and commitment to the team.
The manager praised Ramsdale's support and dedication in training, looking forward to a successful outing on Saturday.
