Caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar has said that non-conventional solutions are being found to provide relief to electricity consumers.
He said this while talking to foreign media representatives on Monday. During the interaction, the interim prime minister said that the revolving debt, electricity theft and line losses are the biggest challenges.
Kakar further said that the government would address the issue in the short term without hurting the sentiments of the protestors.
He went on to say that all possible support will be provided to hold free, fair and transparent general elections as soon as possible.
“It is the caretaker government’s mandate to facilitate the holding of general elections as soon as possible,” Kakar said and added delimitations are necessary after the census.
The premier, the interim setup is primarily focused on reorganising the fiscal and monetary policies in order to construct a superstructure for economic restoration without rebuilding the government structure.
He referred to the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) as a plan for economic resuscitation and said that it was centered on information technology, defense manufacturing, mining, and agriculture.
However, he also outlined his government’s plan for economic reform, stating that the next stage would be the privatization of two or more electricity distribution firms.
He stated that the administration will leave behind a foundation for mid-level changes and that the taxes and energy sectors also needed adjustments. According to Kakar, the administration was adopting a strategy of carrying out the practical and giving strategic direction to the economic planning.
The prime minister brought up the TTP's terrorist acts while discussing the military hardware left behind from the US and its allies' previous operations in Afghanistan, which he saw as posing a threat to peace and calling for a concerted response to the issue.
He said that foreign armies had abandoned Afghanistan after losing interest, but that "we are here to defend our home, children, mosques and places of worship."
