Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has given his preliminary approval to the proposed roadmap for the automation system of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
He has also called for the finalization of the schedule for the implementation of the national airline’s privatization within two days.
Chairing a meeting focused on the privatization of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and the restructuring of FBR, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif led discussions on the progress made thus far and the future steps needed for PIA's privatization.
Additionally, detailed deliberations were held on FBR’s automation, structural reforms to meet global standards, and suggestions for reducing tax rates.
Former caretaker finance minister Dr. Shamshad Akhtar provided a comprehensive briefing on various aspects of FBR’s restructuring, automation, revenue collection deficiencies, and the forthcoming action plan.
The prime minister commended Dr. Shamshad Akhtar’s presentation and welcomed prominent banker Muhammad Aurangzeb's participation via video link.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the importance of investment in modernizing the revenue and tax system, stressing the need for clear time frames for implementation.
He also urged the Ministry of Law to provide recommendations for resolving pending tax-related cases promptly, highlighting the crucial role of reforms in achieving a 6 to 7 percent GDP growth.
In the process of PIA’s privatization, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif underscored the necessity of transparency at all stages, emphasizing zero tolerance for negligence or complacency. He emphasized the need for diligence and efficiency to drive the privatization process forward.
