In a significant development ahead of the upcoming presidential elections, the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) declared on Monday its backing for Asif Zardari, the candidate put forth by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and its allied parties.
This announcement came following a crucial huddle between leaders of the PPP, PML-N, and IPP President Abdul Aleem Khan.
Stressing unity in tackling the nation's challenges, the seasoned politician expressed optimism about collectively steering the country towards stability and progress.
"We stand in solidarity with the PPP and PML-N, aiming to lead the nation out of its current predicaments," remarked Abdul Aleem Khan during discussions with political counterparts.
Highlighting the need to move past electoral disputes, Mr Aleem Khan urged opposition leaders to prioritize the nation's interests above all else. "Accusations of rigging aside, our focus should be on forging a path towards a brighter future," he asserted.
He also underscored the significance of collective efforts, stating, "No individual or party alone can confront the myriad challenges confronting our nation."
Moreover, IPP's endorsement of Asif Zardari aims to promote a policy of reconciliation within the country, as articulated by the party's leadership.
Meanwhile, representatives of the People's Party reiterated their commitment to addressing Pakistan's challenges alongside their allies, underscoring their determination to steer the country towards prosperity and stability.
With the presidential elections scheduled for March 9, Asif Zardari, representing the PPP and its allies, will face Mahmood Khan Achakzai, backed by the Sunni Ittehad Council, in the race for presidency.
