Islamabad United clinched a thrilling 29-run victory against Peshawar Zalmi in the 20th match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 9 at the Pindi Cricket Stadium.
Chasing a challenging target of 197 set by Islamabad United, Peshawar Zalmi succumbed to the pressure, reaching only 167 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their allotted overs.
Peshawar Zalmi's batting order struggled early on, losing half their side for a mere 18 runs. Their captain, Babar Azam, was unfortunately run out, adding to their woes. Openers Saim Ayub and Muhammad Haris could only manage a run each, while Tom Kohler-Cadmore and Rovman Powell were dismissed without scoring.
However, a valiant partnership between Paul Walter and Aamir Jamal revived Peshawar Zalmi's hopes. They put together a crucial 107-run stand for the sixth wicket, delaying their inevitable defeat. Aamir Jamal particularly shone, scoring a brilliant 87 runs off just 45 balls, his knock containing six sixes and eight fours. Paul Walter provided valuable support with his 33 runs.
Islamabad United's bowling attack, led by their captain Shadab Khan who scalped three wickets, eventually restricted Peshawar Zalmi. Roman Raees and Hanin Shah also picked up two wickets each, while Naseem Shah chipped in with one dismissal.
