A bomb blast happened within a university premises in Imphal, Manipur, on Friday resulted in one death and one injury. The blast seems to have been triggered by an IED, improvised explosive device.
Blast victims were taken to the nearby hospital by the emergency personals in an effective way. One of them died due to severe injuries and the others condition is still quite critical.
Further investigation is underway as police are yet to identify the attackers. Also, the area where the explosion has been occurred, prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CRPC have been imposed.
The consequences of an ongoing ethnic war that broke out in May of last year have been felt across Manipur. The violence broke out due to a "Tribal Solidarity March" in the hill areas to oppose the Meitei community's desire for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.
