The federal cabinet on Thursday in a bid to alleviate the financial burden on citizens during the holy month of Ramazan has greenlit a comprehensive relief package to be implemented at utility stores across the country.
This decision comes on the heels of the Economic Coordination Committee's (ECC) recent approval of the utility stores package, paving the way for a significant initiative aimed at easing the cost of essential commodities for the populace.
With an allocation exceeding Rs7.49 billion packages, the relief program is slated to commence on March 4th, coinciding with the advent of Ramazan.
Under this scheme, a targeted subsidy mechanism will be deployed to provide discounts on 19 basic commodities, encompassing essential items such as flour, sugar, ghee, cooking oil, rice, and pulses.
Moreover, consumers can expect reductions on additional staples like dates, gram flour, milk, beverages, and spices, ensuring a comprehensive approach to affordability.
Notably, beneficiaries of the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) will receive targeted subsidies as part of the Ramadzan package, further extending the reach of assistance to vulnerable segments of society.
Additionally, special discount prices will be established for general consumers, underscoring the government's commitment to fostering inclusive economic relief measures.
