The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) addressed circulating misinformation stemming from recent articles by journalist Suhail Warraich, clarifying the context and facts regarding the Army Chief’s interactions and statements.
Warraich’s article on August 16 referenced a ‘meeting’ of the Army Chief in Brussels, offering praise for his leadership while including subtle commentary that, taken out of context, led to speculation.
The following day, Warraich published another article, “Musafir Banam Qaidi Number 804,” which suggested lessons and advice related to reconciliation and forgiveness involving former prime minister Imran Khan. The write-up fueled rumors implying that the Field Marshal had endorsed or discussed such matters, creating public confusion.
ISPR DG emphasized that no such statements were made by the Army Chief, nor was there any one-on-one meeting or discussion on reconciliation or forgiveness.
Speaking to students and journalists on August 21, he clarified that the articles contained material taken out of context, and reassured the public that the Army Chief had not made any comments regarding political parties or individuals in this regard.
The ISPR also stressed that the 9 May incident was a case of public concern, not a matter for the military, and any accountability or apologies should come from political leaders to the nation, in line with legal proceedings.
The statement was described by analysts as a timely and effective move to counter misinformation, reduce speculation, and uphold transparency.
