The International Cricket Council (ICC) has fined Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Afridi, batsman Saud Shakeel, and substitute Kamran Ghulam for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the ongoing tri-nation series in Karachi.
According to the ICC, Shaheen Afridi has been fined 25% of his match fee, while Saud Shakeel and Kamran Ghulam have been penalized 10% each. Additionally, all three players have received one demerit point.
The controversy erupted during Pakistan's match against South Africa when tensions ran high between the two sides.
In the 28th over, South African batter Matthew Breetzke attempted a quick single and collided with Shaheen Afridi. The Pakistani pacer reacted aggressively, exchanging words with Breetzke, which led to a heated moment.
In the very next over, after running out South African captain Temba Bavuma, Saud Shakeel and Kamran Ghulam celebrated aggressively. Kamran Ghulam confronted Bavuma, while Shakeel blocked his path and shouted.
The ICC stated that Shaheen Afridi deliberately obstructed Breetzke, engaged in inappropriate body contact, and argued with him, while Shakeel and Ghulam’s celebrations were excessive and confrontational.
The tri-nation series has seen rising tensions between players, and the ICC has taken strict action to maintain discipline on the field.
