The appointment of eight judges to the Supreme Court has become a contentious issue, as Judicial Commission member Senator Ali Zafar has written a letter to Chief Justice of Pakistan, requesting the postponement of tomorrow’s scheduled meeting.
In his letter, Senator Ali Zafar highlighted the seniority dispute concerning judges of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) and stressed that the meeting should be delayed until this issue is resolved.
Furthermore, the letter pointed out that the recent transfer of judges has altered the seniority list of the Islamabad High Court, raising concerns about the motive behind these transfers. It suggested that the move appears to be orchestrated for handling appeals related to former PTI chairman and Bushra Bibi.
The letter also mentioned that four Supreme Court judges have already called for the postponement of the meeting.
Senator Zafar emphasized that if the Judicial Commission insists on proceeding with the meeting, then transferred judges should not be considered for appointment until the seniority issue is settled.
