The Inland Revenue Service Officers Association has responded to Senator Faisal Vawda’s allegations of death threats from Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) officers.
The association has denied the claims, stating that no threats were issued by its officers, and condemned the attempt to defame them.
The statement clarified that the purchase of government vehicles was by regulations and challenged Vawda to provide evidence of his allegations. It also expressed concerns that baseless statements were undermining the morale of officers and could harm the tax collection process.
The association emphasized that its officers are committed to honesty and professionalism and will defend their dignity and honor at all costs.
On Thursday, Senator Faisal Vawda accused FBR officers of threatening to kill him and destroy his business over the vehicle procurement issue.
The matter was discussed at a Senate Finance Committee meeting chaired by Senator Salim Mandviwala, where the purchase of 1,010 vehicles by the FBR was examined.
Vawda claimed that three officers had threatened him, stating that criminal action should be taken against them, and he had evidence to support his allegations.
He further stated that he had compiled a list of 54 corrupt officers involved in the trade of diamonds and gold and had details of their properties and assets.
The committee decided to refer the case of the threatening officers to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for further investigation. The Chairman of the FBR also vowed to hold those responsible for the threats accountable and called for a high-level inquiry.
The Finance Committee members urged the matter to be referred to a criminal agency like FIA. The committee had earlier expressed displeasure over the FBR's purchase of over 1,000 vehicles worth billions of rupees.
