Apple is reportedly preparing a design refresh for the Apple Watch SE, set to release later this year.
Following last year’s major redesign of the Apple Watch Series 10, the company is eyeing similar changes for its entry-level smartwatch to offer a fresh look at a more affordable price.
According to Bloomberg, the new version of the Apple Watch SE will feature a completely revamped design. While specific changes remain unclear, previous reports have hinted at a shift from the current aluminium casing to a plastic build.
This change could help reduce production costs, but it remains uncertain whether the asking price of the smartwatch will be lowered.
Currently, the Apple Watch SE starts at $249, competing with Samsung’s Galaxy Watch FE, priced at $200, and the more premium Galaxy Watch 6, which costs just $50 more. A plastic chassis might lower manufacturing costs, but questions about the long-term durability of such a design remain. However, if Apple opts for plastic, expect new vibrant colours, reminiscent of the iPhone 5c days.
An updated processor is also expected, although details on other potential upgrades like a larger display, improved battery, or slimmer profile are still unclear.
While features like ECG may stay exclusive to higher-end models, rumours suggest that Apple could introduce blood pressure monitoring in the Apple Watch SE this year, bringing some advanced health features to the more budget-conscious model.
As the Apple Watch SE evolves, it will likely maintain its reputation as a solid option for those seeking quality without breaking the bank.
