The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has registered a case against journalist Harmeet Singh under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016 for allegedly promoting a false narrative against state institutions and inciting violence through his social media activities.
According to the FIA, Harmeet Singh is accused of using his X (formerly Twitter) profile to propagate a malicious narrative aimed at discrediting state institutions. The agency alleges that his posts attempted to incite the public to commit violent acts, create fear and insecurity among citizens, and sow discord between the pillars of the state.
The case further claims that Singh's actions fuelled provincialism and ethnic tensions, aiming to create chaos for certain groups. Authorities described his behaviour as a “heinous attempt” to disrupt social harmony and incite hostility.
The FIA emphasized that the journalist’s actions violated laws designed to protect the integrity of state institutions and public safety. Investigations into the matter are ongoing, with the agency vowing strict legal action against anyone found responsible for such offences.
