Nine more fall prey to Karachi violence

KARACHI: The ongoing violence claimed lives of nine more people in the city over the past 24 hours, bringing the death toll to 39 in four days, SAMAA reports.

Officials said the IG Sindh police has transferred 10 SPs in Karachi over their failure to curb the drive-by attacks, targeted killings and the sack-packed deadbodies row. SP Khurram Waris, sources said, was removed from his office.

According to reports, a police officer was killed in firing by two suspects on a bike when police signaled them to stop at city’s I.I Chundrigar Road. ASI Gulrez was posted at Mithadar Police Station.

Other firing incidents took place in Garden, Mewa Shah graveyard area, Korangi’s Zaman Town and Malir’s Khokhrapar where five people were gunned down.
 
A bullet-riddled body of a man was found from Mauripur area. He was kidnapped before being shot dead, police said.

Body of a man, identified as Asif, was found at Mirza Adam Khan Road in Lyari. He was resident of Phool Pati Lane Area of Lyari locality.

Earlier in the day, Rangers conducted a search operation, arresting three suspects from Jehangir Road.

Some 20 political workers are among 30 people killed over the past three days in the fresh wave of violence in the metropolis.

According to an official tally, the MQM lost 8 of its workers, PPP five, Sunni Tehrik 4, Muhajir Qaumi Movement (MQM-H) two and the ANP one during last four days of political violence. - SAMAA
