ISLAMABAD: Besides summoned a meeting of PPP coalition partners on Sunday, President Asif Ali Zardari has also called party’s legal experts tomorrow for a consultation over Supreme Court’s ruling to strike down contempt law, SAMAA reports.
The new law, passed by the Parliament last month, sought to exempt members of the government from contempt trials.
The bill cleared the way for legal proceedings against Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf who has been given August 8 deadline by the apex court to write a letter to Swiss authority for reopening of money laundering cases.
But on Friday, a five-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry declared the law "unconstitutional".
Sources said team of PPP’s legal experts would review the post-SC-vertical situation and guide the party Co-Chairperson to device future course of action.
The President would later take government allies into confidence while chairing a separate meeting in the Presidency, sources said. --- SAMAA
