Karachi: Imran Khan joins lawyers' protest against contempt law

Staff Report

KARACHI: A large number of lawyers staged protest against the Contempt of Court Act 2012 recently passed by the Senate and National Assembly, SAMAA reports.

Pakistan Tehirk-e-Insaf (PTI) chief, Imran Khan, also joined the lawyers in their protest rally and sit-in at Karachi’s main M.A Jinnah Road on Thursday.

Responding to a call given by Bar Councils, lawyers across the country boycotted high courts and district courts, observing Black Day in solidarity with the judiciary and against the law which allows lawmakers to speak against decision of judges.

Wearing black armbands and hoisting black flags on bar rooms, the legal fraternity vowed to resist the ordinance which was signed into by President Asif Ali Zardari today and later challenged in Supreme Court of Pakistan.

Imran Khan attended Karachi Bar Council’s General Body meeting and also participated in lawyers’ protest rally at M.A Jinnah Road. -- SAMAA
