Staff Report
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has contacted Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) after the latter (party) turned down the offer made by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), SAMAA reports Wednesday.
The N-League leaders will today call on the JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman to hammer out a finalized strategy to field a consensus candidate of the opposition.
Meantime, President Asif Ali Zardari telephoned Maulana Fazl in the backdrop of fresh political standoff unleashed by unseating of Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani from the premiership.
It should be mentioned here that a seven-member bench of Supreme Court on April 26 convicted the former Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and punishment of confinement ‘till the rising of the court’.
However, National assembly’s speaker issued another ruling that declared Gilani as eligible for the post.
However, on June 19 (yesterday), a three-member bench headed by Chief Justice, moving on various identical constitutional petitions, declared Gilani ineligible to hold on to the office of Prime Minister in the light of April 26 verdict. SAMAA
