Supreme Court resumes hearing of NICL case

Staff Report
ISLAMABAD: The inquiry officer in NICL scandal case has submitted on Tuesday a report in Supreme Court of Pakistan regarding the investigations, SAMAA reports.

It states that Secretary Interior and Director General Federal Intelligence Agency did not cooperate with the officials concerning the National Insurance Company Limited scam probe.

Former Additional Director General, Zafar Qureshi, presented the report before a three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, as it resumed hearing today.

Citing Secretary Interior and DG FIA’s lack of cooperation, Qureshi said he wrote 11 letters to them but received no reply.

“Neither the investigation was concluded due to Secretary Interior and DG FIA’s non-cooperation nor could the prosecution properly pursue the case,” the report stated.

Qureshi, in his report, said action against Director Lahore and Additional Director Legal was suggested by him, but it was ignored.

It must be noted that Lahore session court acquitted Moonis Elahi, the main accused in the multi-billion rupee NICL scam.

The former MPA claimed the case was a ‘conspiracy’ to malign his family. SAMAA
