Salman Farooqi acquitted in two references

KARACHI: Accountability Court in Karachi has acquitted Principle Secretary of Asif Ali Zardari, Salman Farooqi from 2 reference cases of the textile quota corruption.

Hearing of textile quota corruption case against Principle Secretary of Asif Zardari Salman Farooqi was held in court of Judge Mir Mohammad Sheikh. In the previous hearing, the defense lawyer of Salman Farooqi took stance that the substantial proofs of the then secretary trade Salman Farooqi's involvement in embezzlement of Rs 30 million in 1996 have not been presented in the court. Furthermore, no witness has given statement against him. Based on his argument, Farooqi's lawyer submitted acquittal plea of his client during the last hearing that was approved by the court today.

Defense lawyer of Shiraz Shamsuddin, who was principle secretary of the then prime minister and was nominated as collaborator of Salman Farooqi in the corruption case, has also submitted acquittal plea of his client after acquittal of Salman Farooqi. The court has postponed the hearing till March 18. SAMAA
